Latest developments in Linerless labels
Catchpoint Ltd, based in the UK offers an essential linerless self-adhesive system
using patented technology to apply labels. Scientifically calibrated microperforations,
trademarked as Catchpoints, define the label format. Several license agreements
have been concluded with major applicator manufacturers both in Europe and USA. Significant technical breakthroughs allows Catchpoint’s licensees to offer the
“dual functionality” to apply both linerless and conventional self-adhesive labels
with minimum changes, allowing end users great flexibility. Mike Cooper, Business
Development Director, confirms that their technology is still being developed,
for example extending the possibilities for high speed print and apply logistics
and VIP labeling. He goes on to say “ Linerless has secured a few niche applications, and some
label printers have had the courage to invest in the essential material coating
capacity necessary to deliver both the environmental and efficiency benefits”.
The company has a USA subsidiary and Simon Moy, CEO of Catchpoint Inc, emphasizes
that the company’s focus is to deliver a broader range of proven applications
to encourage further investment, and help label printers dilute their dependence
on wasteful release liners. “We aim to retain the ease of label application benefits
with a reduced environmental impact, hence enabling printers to grow in a more
sustainable manner. Currently, over half of self-adhesive input materials never
appear on the consumer package, creating significant waste and a damaging carbon
footprint.”
