Rules and Regulations
The reduction of waste is a key policy objective for most Governments.
In the UK the Packaging Waste Regulations and the Landfill Directive put increasing pressure on waste producers to reduce the amount created, recycle
what they produce or pay more for its disposal.
For more information, visit the DTI website.
WRAP works in partnership, helping businesses and the general public reduce waste,
to use more recycled material, and recycle more things, more often. This helps
to minimise landfills, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment.
The EU Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste means a Europe wide requirement by 2007 for recovery of 60% minimum by weight
of packaging waste. Recycling will have to hit a minimum target of 55% by weight
of packaging waste by the same stage.
In the USA the Wisconsin Agreement concerning packaging waste was signed by the
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Packaging Corporation of America.
View the new regulations on the Office of Public Sector Information website.
DEFRA has produced new guidance to assist companies to comply. View further information
on the GreenBiz website and www.carbontrust.co.uk
